Halomine Inc. To Receive Funding and R&D Support from The Cornell Center for Material Research



(Ithaca, NY) — Halomine™, Inc., a pioneer in advanced technology for managing surfaces and providing long term protection against viruses, bacteria, and fungi, today announced that they are to receive funding and technical support from the Cornell Center for Materials Research (CCMR), Cornell University, for research and development of their novel antimicrobial plastics additive. The proposed project focuses on optimizing a residual antimicrobial plastics additive technology that leverages the power of chlorine to disinfect the surface and can readily be recharged in a safe and convenient way.

Halomine will collaborate with Geoff Coates, Professor of Chemistry and Chemical Biology, at the Cornell Center for Materials Research on the development of an N-halamine polymer additive that can be incorporated into common plastics resins like polypropylene, polyethylene and polyvinyl chloride to make an antimicrobial/anti-viral plastic that protects against pathogens and prevents the formation of biofilms.
